Working From Home As A Content Creator - My Thoughts On Discipline

I was supposed to write this post yesterday. I guess that says a lot, doesn't it - I'm writing a post on discipline and I end up procrastinating on it.

It reminds me of a procrastination joke "If you're so good at procrastination, why don't you procrastinate on your procrastinating".

The most challenging aspect of working as a content creator, in my experience, has been the self-regulation aspect of it. As many artists know all too well, we have all these ideas and concepts we want to execute on, and often the obstacle isn't finances or logistics, but a chronic lack of follow-through.

I've been getting better and better at self-regulation over time, but, as a camgirl, it is still a challenge for me to make sure I get myself to do the things I want to do.
People who aren't into art may have some trouble resonating with this, because the popular trope is "do what you love, and you won't ever have to work a day in your life". The fact is, artists often procrastinate on the things they love to do the most.
For example, I really enjoy playing with different burlesque formats, atmospheres, outfits, props and improvisational structures. The hardest part, though, is always getting things started.

I call this the "lawnmower effect". Every camgirl knows what the lawnmower effect is. Maybe you had an amazing idea for a photo shoot, or a lighting setup you want to try, or a video you want to shoot. No matter how excited you are about doing it, you still have to get that motivational lawnmower started, and sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get things going. This isn't because you don't love what you do - - often the things we love to do are the things we procrastinate on the most because we're overly concerned about doing it the right way.

I don't have the master solution to camgirl procrastination - - clearly, since I suffer from it myself, from time to time. However, I've found a very easy, useful strategy to get myself out of these occasional ruts. If I realize that I've been procrastinating, or over-planning something (also a form of productive procrastination), I just tell myself to get it started, even if it's not perfect. Perfectionism is the most insidious form of procrastination, it is hesitation masquerading as high standards.

So, if you're a camgirl, and you find yourself procrastinating on something you want to do - maybe its a modeling photo shoot, or an OnlyFans video - - first of all, become aware of your avoidance behavior, and then say to yourself "I'll enjoy this a lot more if I stop overthinking it and just start doing it". It works for me quite reliably, and hopefully, it'll work for you too.

Happy camming!
